Forex Option Trading

Forex option trading is a very attractive option for knowledgeable forex investors. Forex option trading involves trading of unique derivatives which is a great advantage when compared to other markets.

Option trading decreases the risk of losing an investment and helps to increase profits. There is a fee when you choose to buy an option and this fee is called a premium.

This type of forex trading allows you to buy a specified amount of an underlying security (i.e. currency) at a set price. This set price is known as a strike price.

f the market price of the currency matches or exceeds the strike price, you can execute your option to buy at that price and then sell it back at the market price. This will in turn give you a nice profit.

There are two types of option available to investors. They are called American style and European style.

1- American style
This allows the buyer of any currency to buy at a set price at any time they wish once it is before the option expires

2- European style
With European style forex option trading the buyer is allowed to buy at the set but the option can only be exercised on the expiration date itself.

Benefits of forex option trading:

  • You are limited to the loss of your premium if the currency price does not match or exceed strike price. This is because you can just let the contract expire.
  • Your chances of making a profit when buying options are increased.
  • You usually pay less money going into the deal.
  • Options can be used to hedge risk.

Disadvantages of forex option trading:

Forex option trading is quite desirable to many currency investors due to all the benefits. However there are some disadvantages to choosing forex option trading and they are:

  • Once you actually buy the currency there is no backing out! So in other words you cannot decide to sell it.
  • When you choose forex option trading it is hard to predict how the market will perform in the future.
  • There is a time limit, so therefore if you don’t reach your strike limit before the expiration date you will lose the premium you have paid.
  • And finally others may not want the deal that you have choosing to go into.

In general forex option trading can prove to be quite profitable to enter into, however it can be a difficult venture at times.
